More about the moon …

Sorry, I just couldn’t resist. I know, Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon” album would seem like the perfect choice, but there’s not actually any songs specifically about the moon. Maybe I would suggest just listening to that entire album … in the dark … with friends.

There’s now “Space Oddity” by David Bowie, or “Eight Miles High” by the Byrds. Once again, just sings about space are too vague. I needed the moon. And obviously, I can’t use them all. There’s no Moonshadow here.

But here’s a couple more …

And that’s the way it is … Walter Cronkite, 1916-2009

I know I’m a couple of days behind here, but putting out two papers a night can be time-consuming and all, and sometimes, you just don’t have time to stop and think.

If something big happened during a large part of the 20th century, CBS newsman Walter Cronkite reported on it.

Cronkite, who died July 17, brought the news into a lot of Americans’ homes during the golden age of television, when most Americans’ window to the world  was that box in their living room tuned to one of the big three networks.

Since then, the way we get news has changed. First CNN emerged, the 24-hour news cycle, the Internet, and now, the news with a nice spin to the left or the right, depending on what you choose to believe.

But none of them do it like Cronkite did.

And that’s a shame.

At the top of this post was the seven-minute piece CBS ran the evening he died. Below are a couple of big broadcasts he did.

Man on the Moon

Here’s a tune in honor of the 40th anniversary Monday of the United States putting men on the moon (or a Hollywood soundstage, or the Mojave Desert … whatever you believe).

Not that the song is related, really, but it’s fun.

Appalachian Trail, Argentine tail, … what’s the difference, again?

TSHIRT

In case you’ve missed it, the governor of the fine state of South Carolina, Mark Sanford, has been in the news a little bit over the past couple of weeks. If you need a refresher course, here’s The State newspaper’s coverage of the affair, so to speak.

Quick summary: Governor told aides he was going to hike part of the Appalachian Trail. Turns out, he was with some Argentine tail.

Anyway, Old Man Records is selling a T-shirt to commemorate Sanford’s achievement. It’s $15 and 15 percent of the proceeds go directly to the The Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

If you’re interested, go to the Old Man Records store to purchase the shirt. For more information on the charity, go to www.appalachiantrail.org.

Um … how do I respond to that?

So I walk into the kitchen the other day and my wife, out of the blue, says to me,  …

“So I was reading your ex-girfriend’s blog …”

Oh crap.

This can’t end well for me, I think.

And then, a few sentences later, I hear this … at least I think I did … my head hitting the floor could be making me imagine this … Brooke said, …

“It almost makes me wish you’d married her so we could have been friends.”

I was speechless. My wife loves her “witty-ness” (is that a word?). And her “fabulous” hair. But mostly her witty-ness.

So now Brooke has blogged about her blog.

I don’t really have much else to say here except … this isn’t normal, is it?
