Sarah Palin: Still just a moron or downright evil?

Sarah Palin isn’t to blame for the Arizona shooting spree that killed six — including a 9-year-old girl and a Federal judge — and seriously wounded Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

And anyone writing or saying as much is wrong.

But most of those same critics, who include some journalists, members of the media, Democratic politicians and a lot of people with common sense, are right about one thing. The political rhetoric in this country has gone too far, and Sarah Palin’s use of targets on a map with specific representatives in crosshairs crossed the line.

No, Palin can’t control what a crazy man with a gun will draw from anything she says or does. And she’s not the only one to use images of guns and violence in her speeches and campaigns. Everyone from football coaches to President Barack Obama have done so.

But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t need to be responsible for her words and actions.

She’s right: No one is responsible for the shooter’s actions except the shooter. So she should own up for her actions. If she doesn’t want to draw such heat from the media and Democrats and whoever else is breathing and has working brain cells, MAYBE SHE SHOULDN’T PUT OUT MAPS WITH PEOPLE AS TARGETS.

On the same day the President gave a moving speech at the memorial for the victims of the Arizona massacre, Palin released an early-morning video firing back at her critics. Tone down the talk?

No way.

Palin’s videotaped, carefully written and obviously read statement only exacerbated the problem (like most things that come out of Palin’s mouth).

When criticizing the media and journalists (not the same thing) for rightly calling her out for her words and actions and wrongly blaming her for the shooting, she accused them of “blood libel.”

For those who don’t know, blood libel is a specific term with a specific history. It has been used throughout history and refers to the accusations that Jews killed Christian children and used their blood for religious ceremonies. It has been used for years, and as recently in public discourse as 2005 in Russia, by those who would promote anti-Semitism.

Sarah Palin can’t be that evil to try and evoke those images, can she? No, it’s just a mistake, right? She didn’t know the meaning of the phrase and is sounded good?

Maybe.

But Gabrielle Giffords is Jewish.

Poor choice of words? Poor timing? Or something more sinister, cold and calculated?

You be the judge. Intentional or not, Palin once again comes off as slow, at best. If she meant to use a phrase with this kind of meaning, she’s despicable. If she used it because it sounded good without bothering to find out what it meant, she’s a rube.

Prior evidence should tell us she’s at least a rube. I hope in this case that’s all she is.

“She’s a special kind of stupid”

Sarah Palin obviously can't see Korea from her house.

I can’t claim that quote about Sarah Palin. An acquaintance of mine introduced me to it. But it’s so fitting, I had to borrow it.

On nutjob Glenn Beck’s radio show, commenting on the recent violence between north and South Korea, Palin said we should stand beside our North Korean allies. The only-slightly-smarter-than-her host corrected her.

“This speaks to a bigger picture here that certainly scares me in terms of our national security policy,” she says. “But obviously we’ve gotta stand with our North Korean allies.”

“South Korean allies,” Beck says.

Here’s a link to the audio.

Couldn’t she have just written this down on her hand?

Seriously? Ignorance must be bliss.

Go ahead run for president. Split the right wing vote and guarantee Obama another four years. I dare you.

Sarah Palin endorses right(-wing) guy in wrong state

Sarah Palin, the former Queen of Alaska ... uh, no.

While she still has millions of supporters and there’s a lot of misguided (that’s me being polite) people who believe she would/should/could be president, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin proves again she’s clueless.

Apparently, Palin endorsed, via Twitter, John Raese for the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania. We have a problem, Allentown. Raese is running for the U.S. Senate in WEST VIRGINIA.

But he can see Pennsylvania from his house … right?

I know, it could have been an honest mistake … a slip of the tongue … but it’s all part of a pattern, so that defense doesn’t work any more.

What makes the story even better? It’s possible Raese doesn’t even actually live in W.Va. He owns a business there, but his wife and kids live in Florida. Hmm.

Here’s the story.

UPDATE/ADDENDUM: Piling on Palin

I didn’t want to make a whole seperate post for fear of drawing accusations that I might be unfairly piling on Palin, but I found this story soon after the post about her erroneous endorsement.

Apparently, the Tea Party darling desecrated an American flag during a rally in one of my favorite cities, Reno, Nev. If you watch the video, I actually think she does it twice … once between the 1:30 and 1:41 mark, and then again at the very end of the video.

I don’t know how big a deal this really is. This falls under the same sort of category as flag burning. But I’d be willing to bet that Tea Party supporters are the type of people who think flag burners should be prosecuted. So logically, they should be just as upset by this. But I have a feeling they aren’t.

Here’s a link to the story. And here’s just the video from The Guardian, if you’d like to avoid the commentary of the first website.

Someone had to say it … way to go Keith

That was Keith Olbermann’s Wednesday-night response to the asinine comments from Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson on the liberal-slanted MSNBC.com show Countdown.

I won’t go over what Limbaugh and Robertson had to say on Wednesday and Thursday about the earthquake and relief efforts in Haiti. I’ll just say they’re making Sarah Palin look smart.

Heck, you know you may be out of touch when well-known social commentator Roger Ebert, … yes, that Roger Ebert, the movie guy, go off on you in his movie blog.

Here’s Olbermann’s Thursday-night response to Limbaugh when he acted even less human on Thursday …

Once again, for those who want to give to relief efforts, here’s a list of organizations already working in Haiti.

Again, for those interesting in helping immediately, simply text “HAITI” to “90999” and a donation of $10 will be given automatically to the Red Cross to help with relief efforts, charged to your cell phone bill.

Sunday night election smorgasbord

Sensing the campaign is sinking with 10 days before the election, the Republicans have replaced John McCain with what they hope is a superior candidate, a cardboard cutout of McCain.

Sensing the campaign is sinking with 10 days before the election, the Republicans have replaced John McCain with what they hope is a superior candidate, a cardboard cutout of McCain. When asked, the RNC responded, "Hey, it's worked with Keanu Reeves' acting career."

Since I don’t want to make 100 different posts, I figured I could bunch all of this in one big one.

First, if you buy the rhetoric from the right, it’s only natural that virtually every newspaper in the country would endorse Barack Obama and Joe Biden. That crafty, slimy, liberal mainstream media! (If there was a sarcasm font, I’d use it here)

Back to reality, it might interest most that far more papers in this country endorsed Bush than Al Gore. Oops. There goes that theory/right-wing talking point/pile of horse shit. In addition, I work at a paper that would endorse Mussolini over Jesus Christ if the Italian were a Republican and the messiah a Democrat.

But you’d think McCain and Palin might get a break from the biggest paper in Palin’s state, a Republican stronghold.

Nope.

The Anchorage Daily News endorsed Obama/Biden. Just for kicks, here’s a link to the Fox News blog reporting the endorsement. As if the story isn’t interesting enough, try reading the Fox News readers comments at the end of the blog post. If the comments seem remotely rational to you, please get help as soon as possible, for your safety and others.

Next, speaking of endorsements, former White House press secretary Scott McClellan, a President Bush ally-turned-enemy, endorsed Obama on D.L. Hughley’s new CNN show on Sunday night.

And sticking with endorsements, here’s one you don’t want: Al-Qaeda. More bad news for McCain. Here’s a news item and here’s a New York Times piece on why it makes sense. Take it with a grain of salt.

So Sarah Palin’s hairstylist is the highest paid person on the McCain campaign team, making twice as much as his foreign policy adviser? Haven’t they learned you get what you pay for?

Rush Limbaugh … what a piece of work … he first says that Obama really wasn’t in Hawaii visiting his ailing grandmother, but instead was on some secret mission to cover up birth certificate fraud, or something almost as absurd.

Then, in nearly the same breath, he criticizes Obama for not going to visit granny sooner. Well, Rush, if she wasn’t ill, why would he have needed to leave earlier? I wonder if Rush wears his brownshirt to bed at night, or only under his white sheet at Saturday night get togethers.

And last but not least, something fun.

Sarah Palin dropped the puck at another NHL game this week. This time in St. Louis. There were some boos, but nothing like in Philly, the armpit of classiness in America. (Not that, admittedly, I wouldn’t have booed.) For the most part, St. Louis fans were like they always are, polite and enthusiastic.

But maybe she ought to not go back to St. Louis for a while. Goalie Manny Legace caught his skate on the carpet laid on the ice for Palin and injured his ankle. He departed Friday’s game after surrendering two goals in the first period and didn’t return. The Blues fell to the L.A. Kings, 4-0.

Legrace didn’t play in Saturday’s game. The team doesn’t know how long he’ll be out.
